You don't need to go out of your way to be a better Delhiite. Remember, small things make a big difference.
And they don't cost a thing! Be a good neighbour: Lend a hand in carrying the groceries, invite your neighbour to an evening tea or lower the volume of your television at night. Friends come and go, but neighbours, you are stuck with.
Might as well enjoy the company. Make a best friend: Adopt a stray dog.
You will be giving him a better life and he will be there with you through all your break-ups. Save a life: Nobody likes needles (except maybe tattoo artists).
But face your fear and head to the blood bank. You may never know who you helped but remember, what goes around comes around.
And if you feel more generous, register as an organ donor. Use the bin: There's a reason we have those.
So hold on to that chewing gum, wafer wrapper or beer can till you come across one of these genius inventions. Be a good listener: There are plenty of organisations in the city that help underprivileged children.
Take an hour every week to lend them an ear and they will be more than happy to get chatty. Do some charity: Go through your old wardrobe, you'll find plenty of stuff you are too fat, too thin, or too tall for.
Donate them. Or save the money you spend on a cigarette everyday.
You'll be healthier and save Rs 1,825 a year. Plant a tree: Becoming Delhi's Captain Planet is easier than you think.
Just head to a nearby garden and plant some seeds. You'll do your bit to save the environment.
Cycle, don't drive: Even if you consider the extreme climate, it still leaves plenty of days that are good for cycling. You'll be saving the environment and doing your bit to avoid traffic jams.
Just make sure you have your cycling gear in place. Be nice: A simple 'you look nice today' or even a warm 'good-morning' can make someone's day.
And if you want to be better, offer a seat on the bus or the metro to someone, they don't necessarily have to be old. Hold it: Here is your chance to make sure Delhi smells good.
Agreed, Delhi needs public toilets. But it's in a desperate need of people who don't pee in public places too.
So whenever you have the urge to go to a deserted corner, don't.
