MUMBAI: Dr. Anant Joshi and Indian team physiotherapist John Gloster on Friday detected a `mild tennis elbow' symptom in Sourav Ganguly's right hand from the images of an MRI scan and advised him to take complete rest for ten days. He has been asked to return to the city for reassessment.
Ganguly, who had a two-hour workout in Kolkata on Thursday, has been ruled out of the four-day Challenger series limited over tournament starting at Mohali next Monday.
It was announced that Mohammad Kaif would lead India Seniors in place of Ganguly and the latter's place in the squad would be taken up by Satyajit Parab of Baroda.
Parab, who was originally in India `B' squad, would be replaced by Yusuf Pathan, the elder brother of Irfan.
Meanwhile, experts have counselled Sachin Tendulkar, having recovered sufficiently well to put bat to ball in the field, that he need not worry over jarring sensations on his left hand. Dr. Joshi has told him that aching effects are "not abnormal" after rehabilitation and recovery.
Progress as per plans
Talking to reporters after completing his fourth full-fledged practice session with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy probables at the Wankhede Stadium, Tendulkar reiterated that things over the last four months have progressed more or less according to plans.
"I feel very comfortable playing all my shots. The doctors have told me that there might be a little bit of discomfort because the body is taking time to settle down. The doctors have monitored all my actions. They are even in the know of how many balls I have faced every day and how my elbow is reacting. I am probably getting there (to full fitness). But nothing is going to stop me from playing shots and I will use the bat I am most comfortable with".
Tendulkar described the long lay-off from cricket has probably been the `toughest' in his career. "It's been more mental,'' he said expressing gratitude to all the doctors and well-wishers who have been treating him and were anxious to see him return to action.
Tendulkar also said views of players at variance with each other should not be construed to convey `disunity' in the team. "Members of the Indian team are like members of a family. There can be differences of opinion, but in the end the coach and the players form one family and it would always remain so. The actions taken and the intentions are always to follow a single path to achieve victory".
On permanent manager
He also felt it would be advantageous should the team have a permanent manager. "He will understand the needs of the players and the media. It will make a huge difference and there will be no scope for misunderstanding. It's important that one person handles both".If you like this article, you will also like to read article on " sreesanth and Raina in, Ganguly Out "
